Getting a Good NIght’s Sleep Is all About Routine

The more sleep you get, the better you will feel and the better your overall health will be. Seven to nine hours of sleep per night is the recommended amount, but in the U.S., about four in 10 people does not reach that minimum level. There are a number of reasons for this. Some people choose not to sleep that much because of work or some other reason. But many people suffer from conditions such as insomnia that make it difficult to fall asleep or to stay asleep. For these people, there are a number of things they can try to help improve their sleep experience.

For some people, something as simple as comfortable bedding can be the solution. A 2012 poll showed that 85% of people rated comfortable sheets and bedding as important to getting a good night’s sleep. Finding sheets that are a high thread count and the right material can help you to improve your sleep. You also should invest in a good-quality pillow that is comfortable and supports your neck. And, of course, you need to make sure you have a comfortable mattress that supports you well.

For other people, getting to sleep at night is not so simple. For those with chronic back and neck pain, accessories such as a heated back wrap or an aromatherapy neck wrap or pillow can work as effective sleep aids. In addition to an aromatherapy neck wrap, there are a number of accessories that can help to relax you and improve your comfort when you are going to bed, including a shoulder heat wrap, lavender heat pack and microwavable heated back wrap.

For other people, their sleeping issues are more mental, and so a good way to improve the chances of a good night sleep can have to do with routine. If you routinely work or play on electronic devices right up until bedtime, start quitting earlier, at least an hour before you go to bed. This allows your mind to wind down and calm itself. Other routine-type things that you can do to help induce sleep are to drink warm milk or tea as long as it has no caffeine or to do something relaxing before bedtime.
