In previous years, the building at 5 Roadside Avenue in Waynesboro, PA housed everything from doctors officers to the area’s Chamber of Commerce. Today, however, the structure hardly resembles these former roles: thanks to the addition of six examination rooms, bright murals and a dedicated medical staff, the site is ready to begin it’s new life as the community’s first pediatric urgent care center.
Across the United States, urgent care clinics have become a popular presence in the healthcare industry. Unlike traditional doctors offices and hospitals, urgent care facilities offer immediate treatment for a variety of non-life-threatening conditions at relatively low prices. They also have convenient hours and commonly accept walk in patients, helping patients who may not have time to schedule ahead. Despite these benefits, however, the town of Waynesboro reportedly has few urgent care centers nearby. Moreover, as Dr. Fouzia Rishi noticed, few medical centers in the area offered pediatric urgent care services, which focus on treating children.
Rishi reportedly came to Waynesboro in 1996 with no patients. In the eighteen years since, she started and expanded her main practice, Pediatric Specialists of Franklin County, which now has 7,000 clients. However, Rishi says her dream was to expand local options for children and families. Accordingly, in February 2015, she opened the 2,5000-square-foot pediatric urgent care facility in Waynesboro to continue this dream. Currently, she has a staff of 13 people, many of whom also work at her main clinic. Like most urgent care clinics, the pediatric urgent care center will provide treatment for a variety of non-critical injuries and illnesses children in the area may experience.
The pediatric urgent care center will be open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will also be open weekends from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-in appointments are encouraged.
