Family and Group Therapy Services for a More Emotionally Stable World

    Individual counseling

We human beings are social animals. We are not meant to exist as islands. But the problem with the so called advanced society in which we live is that it has completely failed us when it comes to educating ourselves and each other about how to properly communicate, how to interact with each other when there are things to address, and how to get through conflict resolution. Sure, there are individuals who are adept at these things, but for the most part, people are largely told to suck it up or get it together, when in fact, they have never properly been taught how to deal with the things that they are feeling. We are emotional creatures, and in order to truly understand how to move forward when there are issues at hand, we must learn how to handle those emotions and the emotions of those around us.

    Where it all begins

So many emotional problems that people find themselves dealing with in adulthood stem from some sort of issue that was developed during childhood. This is the perfect example of a cycle that isn’t working, yet we continue to perpetuate it. An adult does not have the tools to properly handle a situation, and inadvertently causes pain, trauma, or emotional damage to the child. The child then grows up unable to deal with those issues, and once again the problem is passed on to the next generation. This type of behavior is rampant throughout society, and yet there is nothing being done on a large scale to address it. What we do have, however, are growing resources in therapy and counseling, which is a good start. Family and group therapy can be a great way to properly deal with those issues and put a stop to the harmful cycle that is continuously passed down from generation to generation.

What can individual, family and group therapy do?

Family and group therapy services serve a variety of functions, particularly because there is such a wide variety of issues plaguing families, couples, and individuals today. From dealing with traumatic situations to giving people the tools to openly and clearly communicate with one another, counseling and therapy sessions attempt to open people up, help them, and lead them to the realization that they are indeed not an island. Family counseling can bring family members closer together and heal old wounds. Couples counseling can help partners focus on understanding each other’s perspectives. Individual counseling can help a person dig deep to uncover parts of themselves that need to be addressed and resolved. Each one of these types of therapy brings greater understanding, and with it, the ability to communicate and empathize.

Success is closer than you think
It can be a long, tiring, and difficult road to heal wounds, learn to understand yourself and others, and become a good communicator. But people are doing it every day. It is possible, and it is within reach. You just have to be willing to examine yourself and the situation. Do the work, and you will be glad that you did. For one thing, seeing a licensed therapist can save you 20% to 40% more money than if you went to see a psychiatrist or psychologist.

But more importantly, you will start to see positive results in your life on almost every level. Of those who have sought out help with their romantic relationship, it has been estimated that about 97% go the help that they needed. And of those who went to work out their issues with a family therapist or marriage counselor, 93% felt that they walked away in possession of more effective tools for addressing their issues. On top of that, they also saw improvements in their physical health and their focus and drive in the workplace.

In the past, there has been a bit of a stigma on the idea of getting professional help for mental, emotional, or relationship problems. But there is no shame in it. Individual, family and group therapy services help us become better humans, and the more of us that do that, the better this entire planet will become.
