3 Ways to Reduce the Risk of Fibroids Easily

Uterine fibroids surgery

Although they’re typically not that big of a deal, some women can’t help but get worried about uterine fibroids, which are muscular tumors that develop on the walls of the uterus. The vast majority of women will develop at least one in their lifetime, and yet virtually all of them never experience the signs and symptoms of fibroids. The reason why so many women worry, though, is because of the symptoms of fibroid cysts that can develop.

Many women often need uterine fibroid treatments because they have an abnormal amount of menstrual bleeding, abdominal swelling, pelvic pain, rectal pressure, and even pain during intercourse.

Although doctors are still unsure to this day what cause fibroids, they have found that some women are more at risk than others. Fortunately, this also means that there may be some proactive steps you can take to avoid developing fibroids. Here are just a few.

Get in shape. Researchers have found that women who are overweight or obese are more likely to develop fibroids. For very heavy women, the risk is twice or thrice greater than average. In other words, women can reduce their risk of developing fibroids by getting in shape.

Avoid red meat. Red meat has been shown to also increase a woman’s risk of fibroids. Avoiding it can thusly help reduce a woman’s risk of fibroids, but that’s not all. Substituting red meat for greens or other, more lean meats can help extend your lifespan.

Start birth control. Going on birth control doesn’t actually help prevent fibroids, but it can help mitigate or even eliminate the abnormal menstrual bleeding they might cause. In fact, doctors sometimes prescribe birth control medicines as fibroid treatments to women who suffer from abnormal menstrual bleeding.
